Public Information Officer/Grant Coordinator PDF Print E-mail

The Wythe County Board of Supervisors is accepting applications for a full-time Public Information Officer/Grant Coordinator. 

A bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing with a minimum of two-years of work experience or an equivalent amount of experience preferred. 

Must possess excellent writing skills, be detail oriented with a thorough knowledge of MS Office applications, experience in video recording and editing,   prior media & community relations experience (including crisis communications), experience working with web content, social media, capable of multi-tasking,  and have excellent public speaking skills. 

Normal office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., however the position is exempt and requires evening hours.  Salary range for this position is negotiable based on qualifications and experience.

DEPUTY TREASURER III / ACCOUNTANT PDF Print E-mail

The Wythe County Treasurer is seeking qualified applicants for the full time position of Deputy Treasurer III / Accountant. Applicant should have knowledge of and experience in accounting practices and procedures. Possess knowledge of standard office practices, procedures and equipment and money handling procedures. Must have excellent computer and problem solving skills, possess the ability to work well with co-workers and the public and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Duties include but are not limited to preparing and posting routine and complex journal entries to ledger accounts; reconciling accounts; preparing daily deposits; maintaining various office records; responding to inquiries; providing assistance to other office positions. College degree or equivalent work related experience preferred. Salary: $30,393 per Virginia Compensation Board guidelines and is non-negotiable, plus benefits. Employment benefits include health insurance, retirement, annual and sick leave, and paid holidays. Related employment tests may be administered during employment interview. Upon acceptance of position, individual must submit to and pass a criminal background investigation and an acceptable Department of Motor Vehicles driving record.

Wastewater Operator PDF Print E-mail

The Wythe County Board of Supervisors is accepting applications for a full-time Water and Wastewater Operator or Operator Trainee for the Wythe County Water and Wastewater Department.

Job functions include operation and maintenance of the water and wastewater systems, which service nearly four thousand residential and commercial customers.  Job duties include but are not limited to: operation of wells, pump stations, and wastewater treatment facilities; performing the necessary field and laboratory tests to ensure compliance with State regulations; maintenance of water distribution and wastewater collection systems.

The Operator Trainee will be required to obtain the necessary water and wastewater licenses as a condition of employment within a specified time period.  Job hours include weekends and holidays as directed.

Applicants who possess or are in the process of obtaining Associates in Applied Science Degree in the field of Environmental Science, Water/Wastewater Specialization, or Chemical/Biological sciences preferred.  Applicant should possess strong organizational and multi-tasking skills, computer skills, mechanical and electrical skills, be self-motivated and possess a team player attitude.  The candidate shall have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Applicants must possess at a minimum a High School diploma, GED or Vocational school graduate education.  The applicant must have a valid motor vehicles operator’s license.

New River Regional Water Plant - Part-time Director PDF Print E-mail

The New River Regional Water Authority is accepting applications for a part-time Director for the New River Regional Water Plant. It is anticipated the position will be required to work up to 30 hours per week.

The Director shall perform a variety of skilled work as a supervisor over the water operators, operator trainees, and temporary workers, including procurement, developing budget and complying with approved budget. Responsible for directing an efficient, overall operation/maintenance of the plant and to maintain proper documentation and compliance with state and federal regulations.

It is a plus to possess a Class I or Class II Virginia Waterworks Operator Certification as issued by the Virginia State Board for Certification of Water or Wastewater Works or shall at least have a two-year degree in environmental science or civil engineering. Must have five (5) years experience related to operation, repair and maintenance of water treatment systems including the operation of related maintenance equipment and must have a minimum of five-years supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will acceptable.
