Wastewater Operator PDF Print E-mail

The Wythe County Board of Supervisors is accepting applications for a full-time Water and Wastewater Operator or Operator Trainee for the Wythe County Water and Wastewater Department.

Job functions include operation and maintenance of the water and wastewater systems, which service nearly four thousand residential and commercial customers.  Job duties include but are not limited to: operation of wells, pump stations, and wastewater treatment facilities; performing the necessary field and laboratory tests to ensure compliance with State regulations; maintenance of water distribution and wastewater collection systems.

The Operator Trainee will be required to obtain the necessary water and wastewater licenses as a condition of employment within a specified time period.  Job hours include weekends and holidays as directed.

Applicants who possess or are in the process of obtaining Associates in Applied Science Degree in the field of Environmental Science, Water/Wastewater Specialization, or Chemical/Biological sciences preferred.  Applicant should possess strong organizational and multi-tasking skills, computer skills, mechanical and electrical skills, be self-motivated and possess a team player attitude.  The candidate shall have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Applicants must possess at a minimum a High School diploma, GED or Vocational school graduate education.  The applicant must have a valid motor vehicles operator’s license.

Lead Dispatcher Telecommunicator PDF Print E-mail

The Wythe County Board of Supervisors is accepting applications for a full-time Lead Dispatcher Telecommunicator for the Emergency Communications Center.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Field emergency and non-emergency calls for service from the public for police, fire, rescue, and other emergency services. To dispatch police, fire, rescue, and other emergency services personnel by radio, radio paging or phone. Conduct entry and inquiry into VCIN/NCIC/DMV records via data terminal. Operate modem and fast –paced computer-aided dispatch utilizing DOS and Windows based operating systems. Carry out assigned miscellaneous tasks, maintaining records, scheduling, day-to-day responsibilities and serve as an assistant to the Director of the Communications Center in performance of a wide variety of training and other duties.

QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent. Minimum of three years experience as a telecommunicator. Must possess good keyboarding skills, state certification in VCIN/NCIC and Telecommunications, ability to communicate professionally and efficiently via telephone and radio, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under stressful emergency situations. Must have a minimum of two years experience as a training supervisor or be APCO certified as a trainer and have had leadership training. May be required to pass a hearing test. Must be willing to work any shift with no exceptions. Shifts may be 8 hours to 12 hours in duration. Drug screen and extensive background check required. Starting salary is $30,000.00.

Youth League Football Referees PDF Print E-mail

The Wythe County Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications for Youth League Football Referees. Candidates must be willing to work weekday evenings and weekends as needed. All candidates will need experience with  football rules and regulations.

Part-time Construction Manager PDF Print E-mail

The Wythe County Board of Supervisors is seeking qualified applicant for part-time construction manager position to oversee building construction and site improvements of the Appalachian Regional Exposition Center (APEX). The APEX arena building is a 90,000 square foot metal building located on a 41 acre site southeast of I81/I77 Exit 77. Successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating bidding of building (in whole or by separate trades) and appurtenances, reviewing and approving submittals, coordinating work flow between various trades, scheduling required testing, recommending change orders, and other tasks necessary to confirm building is constructed to design standards on behalf of and at the direction of the Wythe County Board of Supervisors. APEX plans and specifications can be viewed at the Wythe County Administration Office. Compensation shall commensurate with experience.
