The Wythe County Board of Supervisors is accepting applications for part-time Telecommunicators for the Emergency Operations Center.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Field and prioritize emergency and non-emergency calls for service from the public for police, fire and rescue, prioritize and dispatch those calls accordingly via radio, computer or paging system. Operate multiple computer programs simultaneously at fast-paced computer-aided dispatch console. Entry of data and inquiries into VCIN/NCIC/DMV via data terminal.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or a minimum of two-year’s experience preferred. Above average standard of communication, typing, comprehension, and critical thinking skills are required. Must be skilled in data entry, keyboarding and multitasking. Certification for VCIN/NCIC recommended but not required at time of hire, but must be obtained within six months of hire date. Must be able to operate multiple computer programs simultaneously at fast-paced computer-aided dispatch console utilizing Windows based operating systems. Must be proficient in English (oral and written), secondary language knowledge is a plus. May be required to pass a hearing test. Must be willing to work any shift with no exceptions to include nights, weekends and holidays. Drug Screen and extensive background check required.
