As required by the application process for the 2020 Virginia Telecommunication Initiative (VATI) grant, Wythe County officially announces its intention to partner with Citizen’s Telephone Cooperative (“Citizen’s”), to apply for a grant to provide broadband service to residents in the Powerline Road area, Browntown Road area, and areas around East Lee Highway.  Preliminary data collected from residents indicates that these areas meet the DHCD VATI program broadband definition of unserved.  If approved, Citizen’s would be building Fiber to the Home (FTTH) to the neighborhoods and offering only one bandwidth tier of 1Gbps/500Mbps

The Virginia Department of Community Development implements VATI and will be awarding $19 million this year to eligible applicants. Proposals are to be submitted by September 3, 2019.  For more information, please contact Dennis Reese at 540.745.9528.
