We have been receiving phone calls to our Emergency Communications Center about the upcoming storms. Wythe County would like to address the situation. Hurricane Florence looks from reports to be heading towards the Carolinas and moving inland. The direct path still has time to change and may vary from the predictions. Food- At least a three-day supply of non-perishable food

• Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert

Extra Medications-your prescription and over the counter for three days

• Flashlight

• First Aid Kit

• Extra Batteries

• Whistle to signal for help

• Dust mask to help filter contaminated air and plastic sheeting and duct tape in case of sheltering-in-place

• Moist towelettes, garbage bags, and plastic ties for personal sanitation.

• Wrench or Plier

• Manual can opener for food

• Local Maps

• Cell phone with chargers and a backup battery

Please take notice of the possible dangers that are present and have a plan for the worst. Stay alert through media outlets such as TV and radio for updates. Please visit the Wythe County webpage to sign-up for citizen alerts and like the Wythe County Facebook page to get up to date information. Request for Engineer Services PDF Print E-mail

REQUEST FOR ENGINEER SERVICES

WYTHE COUNTY FIRE HYDRANT FLOW RATE ANALYSIS

Wythe County, Virginia, is seeking proposals for Engineer Services for the preparation of a Fire Hydrant Flow Rate Analysis for the Wythe County West and Wythe County East Water systems. The combined water systems contain approximately 130 miles of water mains and 525 Fire Hydrants. The analysis will be used to implement a standardized fire hydrant bonnet color coding system to identify available fire hydrant flow.

The scope of work will include but not be limited to the following;

• Assembling simplified water models of each of the tank pressure zones within the system. Water model nodes will be selected to represent high, low, and intermediate points along the water mains to calculate available flow.

• Individual Fire Hydrants will not be modeled, however, a control group of hydrants will be selected and flow tested to confirm the model accuracy.

• Prepare mapping of the system suitable for identifying and color coding fire hydrants according to AWWA and NFPA standards.

Interested offerors are requested to provide five copies of qualifications and references on Standard Form (SF) 330.

Proposals will be received at the office of Stephen D. Bear, Wythe County Administrator, 340 South Sixth Street, Wytheville, VA 24382 until 5:00 P.M. local prevailing time on August 31, 2018.

Wythe County encourages the participation of MBE/WBE type firms.

Wythe County reserves the right to accept or reject any and all proposals.

By Order of the Wythe County Board of Supervisors

Stephen D. Bear, County Administrator
