Additional Information for Preparedness

 

 

 


The Department of Emergency Services provides preplanning and mitigation as well as coordinates responses and recovery for natural and man-made disasters and emergencies. The Department of Emergency Services also oversees and maintains the Wythe County Emergency Operations Center (EOC), reviews and updates the Wythe County Emergency Operation Plan (EOP), facilitates training and exercise programs on disaster and large-scale emergency response, manages emergency notifications and alerts to the public, and coordinate and implement public programs to educate locals on safe practices and being prepared.

The Director of Emergency Management is the Chairperson of the Wythe County Board of Supervisors. The day-to-day activities of the emergency preparedness program have been delegated to the Coordinator of Emergency Management. The Director, in conjunction with the Coordinator of Emergency Management, will direct and control emergency operations in time of emergency and issue directives to other services and organizations concerning disaster preparedness. The County Administrator and the Public Information Officer will be responsible for emergency public information
