The Wythe County Parks and Recreation is now accepting employment applications for Campground Clerk/Maintenance positions at Rural Retreat Lake. These are seasonal part-time positions (up to 28 hours) starting May through September. 

All Candidates must possess a positive friendly demeanor, work well with the public, and be willing to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays as needed. Employees should be able to lift 50 lbs or less without assistance and have reliable transportation. 

Campground Clerks/Maintenance are responsible for managing the camp store, daily maintenance of the store/campground, camp sites and other duties deemed necessary. FULL JOB DESCRIPTION HERE

The Wythe County Treasurer is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of Deputy Treasurer/Clerk. 

Applicant must possess strong computer skills with the ability to learn quickly; be detail oriented; possess excellent problem solving and communication skills - verbal and written; ability to follow procedures, multi-task in a seasonally high paced work environment, handle frequent interruptions and work independently without direct supervision; have knowledge of standard office practices and procedures and equipment; be self-motivated and a reliable team player.  Essential duties include but are not limited to: accepting and processing various payments; cashiering and balancing a cash drawer daily; assisting with tax inquiries; maintaining various office records and preparing office documents for distribution. 

Applicant possessing education and/or experience in accounting, administrative support or computer technology preferred but not required.  SALARY: $33,415.  Related employment tests may be administered during employment interview.  Successful applicant must submit to and pass a criminal background investigation and possess an acceptable Department of Motor Vehicles driving record.

Wythe County is hiring dispatchers, and we’re willing to train the right candidates for our E911 emergency communications center located in downtown Wytheville. The dispatch center operates 24/7, directing communications for law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services.

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED; have some computer skills and knowledge; be able to read and understand a map; be able to hear and speak clearly. Public safety experience helpful but not necessary.

WHAT DISPATCHERS DO:  Receive phone calls and texts for service from the public for police, fire and rescue. Sends police, fire and rescue personnel to emergency scenes by radio communication and electronic paging. Entry and inquiry into VCIN/NCIC/DMV records via data terminal. Operate modern computer-aided dispatch and mapping.  Carry out assigned related tasks as required.

OUR EXPECTATION:  Must be able to type, communicate professionally and clearly via telephone and radio, and quickly and calmly handle multiple tasks simultaneously under stressful emergency situations. May be required to pass a hearing test. Requires ability to maintain confidentiality. Must be willing to work shifts assigned; we have openings on both day shift (6 a.m.-6 p.m.) and night shift (6 p.m.-6 a.m.). Requires high school diploma or equivalent, pre-employment physical, clean drug screen and background check.
