Essential duties include responding to calls and patrolling to observe animal law violations, enforcing animal control laws, investigating calls, investigating animal bites, capturing and handling sick and injured animals, enforcing zoning ordinance and various environmental codes, inspecting properties, issuing summons for violations, maintaining records and files, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. The Wythe County Board of Supervisors is accepting applications for a full-time Lead Dispatcher Telecommunicator for the Emergency Communications Center. 

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Field emergency and non-emergency calls for service from the public for police, fire, rescue, and other emergency services. To dispatch police, fire, rescue, and other emergency services personnel by radio, radio paging or phone. Conduct entry and inquiry into VCIN/NCIC/DMV records via data terminal. Operate modem and fast –paced computer-aided dispatch utilizing DOS and Windows based operating systems. Carry out assigned miscellaneous tasks, maintaining records, scheduling, day-to-day responsibilities and serve as an assistant to the Director of the Communications Center in performance of a wide variety of training and other duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:  High School diploma or equivalent. Minimum of three years experience as a telecommunicator. Must possess good keyboarding skills, state certification in VCIN/NCIC and Telecommunications, ability to communicate professionally and efficiently via telephone and radio, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under stressful emergency situations. Must have a minimum of two years experience as a training supervisor or be APCO certified as a trainer and have had leadership training. May be required to pass a hearing test. Must be willing to work any shift with no exceptions. Shifts may be 8 hours to 12 hours in duration. Drug screen and extensive background check required. Starting salary is $30,000.00.
