The Virginia Department of Transportation and the Board of Supervisors of Wythe County, in accordance with Section 33.2-331 of the Code of Virginia, will conduct a joint public hearing in the Board Room of the Wythe County Administration Building, 340 South Sixth Street, Wytheville, Virginia 24382 at 6:05 p.m. on May 9, 2023. The purpose of this public hearing is to receive public comment on the proposed Secondary Six-Year Plan for Fiscal Years 2023/24 through 2028/29 in Wythe County and on the Secondary System Construction Budget for Fiscal Year 2023/24. Copies of the proposed Plan and Budget may be reviewed at the Wytheville Residency Office of the Virginia Department of Transportation, located at 2843 Chapman Road, Wytheville, Virginia 24382 or at the Wythe County offices located at 340 South Sixth Street, Wytheville, Virginia 24382.
All projects in the Secondary Six-Year Plan that are eligible for federal funds will be included in the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), which documents how Virginia will obligate federal transportation funds.

Sealed bids will be received for the Appalachian Expo (Apex) Center in the County Administrator’s Office at the Wythe County Administration Building, 340 South Sixth Street, Wytheville, VA 24382 on or before Monday, May 15, 2023, at 3:00 PM.
The work generally consists of locker rooms, concession upgrades, play surfaces for hockey and soccer, refrigeration, fire protection, plumbing, HVAC and electrical work. It is the intent of the Wythe County Board of Supervisors that the work will be awarded under a single prime General Construction Contract. The county has already ordered the necessary refrigeration, cooling, dehumidification and air components specified by the consulting engineers. This locally-funded project has no Davis-Bacon requirements.
Bids will be opened publicly and read aloud on Monday, May 15, 2023 at 3:30 PM in the Wythe County Board of Supervisor’s Conference Room.

A Pre-bid Conference will not be held for the project. Interested bidding contractors are encouraged to visit the site located at 200 Apex Drive, Wytheville, VA 24382 to familiarize themselves with existing site and building conditions. The Wythe County Planning Commission is currently in the process of updating Wythe County’s Comprehensive Plan. This plan is designed as a decision-making tool to help guide the growth and development of the county. It makes recommendations based upon the data gathered about land use, population, housing, community services, transportation and the economy. The recommendations made in this plan take into consideration present and probable future needs and seeks to promote the health, safety, morals, order, convenience, prosperity and general welfare of the people in Wythe County.
In an effort to determine the views of local citizens and gain valuable information to prepare the updated plan, the Planning Commission will be conducting a public hearing, in compliance with Section 15.2-2204 of the Code of Virginia, on Monday, May 1, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the Wythe County Administration Building, 340 South 6th Street, Wytheville, VA.

Wythe County has received funds from the Department of Environmental Quality to make repairs to the existing sewer system on the eastern side of Wythe County. Work on the project will start the first of June. The repairs will continue through the fall. If you have public sewer, there may be repairs near your home and along the roadways. The trunk lines that will be repaired are along Reed Creek and close to the major farming operations along Reed Creek.
